Baby, Baby, Baby Signing Time...

If you know me at all...
through real-life or bloggy-life...
you know that Allikaye LOVES to sign...
and we both LOVE Signing Time!
Here she is in the car the other day...
I first bought Baby Signing Time Volume 1
when Allikaye was about 5 months old.
No, I wouldn't just plop her in front of the tv -
but I would have it playing in the background at times.
Soon she would perk up right away when Rachel would come on
and the theme song started to play!
It was the only thing that would keep her attention!
That is still true today!

She began signing "all done" at 6 months old!
Never would she have been able to communicate that through words...
but we knew exactly what she was saying!
Between 9 and 12 months Allikaye could sign about 25 words...
I posted first about it here...back in February!

We have since bought the Volume 2 Baby Signing Time,
and about 6 other volumes of the Signing Time DVDs.
I posted more about it here!

These DVD's have helped Allie to know so many words!
She not only says them, but signs words while speaking!
It is amazing to watch!

Without any pressure or hours of work,
she has picked up over 200 signs!

She knows almost all her veggies, fruits and foods...
colors...
daily activities
(good morning, good night, brush teeth, clothes and more)...
feelings (happy, scared, crying, excited)...
lots of animals...
simple requests (hungry, more, thirsty, play)...

I know I have said it before here,
but I HIGHLY recommend signing!
And not only signing,
but getting involved with the Signing Time videos and music!
It has been one of the biggest factors in Allikaye's vocabulary development,
as well as highly cut down on tantrums and frustrations for her.
I can not imagine what our life would look like
now that we are in the toddler times with her!
I know the tantrums would triple
if she wasn't able to sign and say what she needs or feels!

At 20 months old,
Allikaye can sign and say every word
that we have introduced to her.
It is amazing to watch her see a DVD for the first time -
then use the signs, while saying the word, in the correct context and situation!
I practice the signs and speech with her -
in our daily events and conversations -
but I really feel like the credit goes to the Signing Time people!
The videos are so interactive and easy to learn.

As I put my "teacher-hat" on -
I love how Signing Time incorporates
the written words for every sign
along with a lot of repetition of the signs...
done by kids just like Allikaye...
and original songs that are easy to follow and sing along with.

I am super excited to see the part signing plays
in the rest of Allikaye's development...and life!

So...I received an email from Two Little Hands Production
and they asked if I would be interested in screening
Baby Signing Time Volumes 4 and 5!

Ummm...YES!

The day we opened them in the mail -
we were so excited!
Allikaye started singing and signing the opening song like old times!
Oh my! They were excellent!
Even though they are called "Baby" Signing Time -
they are so great for all young kids!
After we watched it -
Allikaye was already signing -
friends, again, dirty, clean, day, sun, wind, new, and so many others!
She even picked up the songs and was singing right along!
Okay - so the new volumes come out in October...
they ARE worth it!
If you have older kids - there are plenty of
other volumes...
all with great songs and useful signs!!
Here are the previews of both new volumes...
ENJOY!!

Raise the roof for Signing Time!!
Oh yeah!

How can a 20 month old seem so old?!

Allikaye is now 20 months old...
she is definitely not a baby...
but a full-fledged toddler!
It amazes us how much she learns everyday...
and how quickly it is all happening!
Here are a few things that are standing out to me
as I reflect upon Allikaye at 20 months old:

She will repeat ANY word we say...
She asks so many questions..."mom, was that?"
She can pick up any sign we introduce to her...and keep using it!
She remembers songs and can sing them with us...
She is not a big eater...at all...I am working on this!
She loves to walk on ledges, holding our hand,
while saying her ABC's...
She loves "calling" grandmama and papa on the phone....
She loves to include everyone in every activity...
"dada too!" "mama too!" "Tre too!" (yep, even the dog)...
She loves to laugh while covering her mouth...
similar to her mama...
She loves to have full conversations...
even if you can only understand about 60% of what she says...
She loves animals...she has asked to "watch meerkats, mom"
and wants to go outside to look for snakes and rabbits...
She has peed in her potty twice...look close, it's in there!!She loves to pray...
She will close her eyes and repeat what we are praying...
We really love when we say..."in Jesus Name, Amen."
And she says, "sus name, Amen!"
Okay...I'll try to wrap it up, I feel like I can just keep going!!
Finally...she loves to count to ten!
I was so excited when she started counting all on her own -
1-10!
She almost has her ABCs...
Okay...one more thing...
now that she knows her counting...
this is what she said the other day...
"Mom...high five...six...seven!"

Oh, thank you Lord for my girl!!

Colorado Balloon Classic!

Better late than never...
here are some pictures form our fun Labor Day weekend!
We (of course) spent time with grandmama and papa...
woke up EARLY...
put on our sweatshirts...
and went to see the fun big hot air balloons!
This is where the balloons would dip into the lake on their way outta town!
Look - even all the animals got to dip!
The ark was an obvious fave of Miss Thing!
I have so many pictures of Allikaye (and whoever was holding her)
straining their necks up to the sky...
she was taking in as much as she could of the cool balloons!
It is so fun to be able to share new memories with Allikaye!
The innocence and excitement she has...
for everything... is so refreshing!
She makes me act more like a kid...if that's possible!

How fun!
