Potty Training Cowgirl

Allikaye is now 2...
and is now ready to potty train!
Okay...
fun...
the next step in my precious angel's life!
So...
why didn't anyone tell me it was going to be like this...
Hard! Frustrating! Exciting!
And that is just MY emotions!

She likes to sit on her throne...
and talk talk talk...
with some action here and there.
We started this little daily ritual when she was 18 months old...
and she would usually go first thing in the morning
and then right before bed.

But now I realize we need to get more on the
throughout-the-day train.

Here is the potty sticker poster...
As you can see...it is going pretty good...
she is actually telling me when it is time to go...
and most of the times she'll go!

Except for this...the public restroom!

When we are out shopping...
which just happens to be most everyday...
(I might have a little love of shopping)
Miss Allikaye tells me she has to go...
so we head to the "big" potty...
and this is what I hear,
"No, mommy, it's too big!"

What do I do?
Stay at home until this is worked out?
Yeah, that won't work for me!
So...that is my first question...

My second question is...
How do I make this going in the potty thing more consistent?
Maybe I just have to be more patient?
Just let her go when she wants to?
Some days...no accidents...others...not so much.
I know there are peeps with answers for me out there!

I can sense the day of no more diapers...
it is right around the corner...

You ready for me to switch subjects?
Thought so.
Here ya go...

We headed to the Western Stock Show today...
Never been...but after all of the success at the County Fair...
I mean we seriously LOVED our County Fair!
So we thought this would be fun!
Allikaye loves the animals! LOVES!
Hmmm....
maybe I really should have asked for some advice
on this big-city-Denver-stock show.
Miss Cowgirl was still able to see a few cute animals...
well...
2 goats, 4 piglets, some geese, chicken, rabbits, guinea pigs,
and cows.
Nothing like our fair here in Castle Rock!
Really, nothing beats the small town stuff...nothing!
Cost of parking at the Stock Show?
$20! Ah! Seriously!
And they only took cash, obviously, but we didn't think of that
until we had gone through the long line of cars,
got up to the front,
then had to turn around and drive to the nearest ATM.
By that time we thought...just go change plans...right?
No way!
Allikaye heard that and had her little tantrum telling us that was not an option!
Oh boy...this place was crazy...and expensive!
You had to pay to get in- just to look at the cows...
and then the few animals...
and then get more cash to eat!

Allikaye didn't notice though...
and she had a good time...
and there will be the good ol' county fair next year!
Free to park, free to get in, hands on animals, and lots of them,
and right down the road!

Yeehaw.

Oh...and please give me any advice you may have...
come on...do it!

**I also posted my second memory verse for this month on my sidebar!**

As a parent of a girl who is still working on potty training at almost 4, my advice is...don't push it too hard! :) If she gets discouraged or you try to force her when she doesn't want to, it could totally backfire. And 2 is still really really young. She may not even have fully developed to be able to "hold it" all the time yet. :)

And, because we live out away from town and we can't always get to a potty in time (not to mention I HATE visiting every public restroom in the county), we bought a potty chair for the car. It's a lifesaver!

Shopping is tough and I thought I would never go out again, but I promise you will.

I would stay home for a while until she gets the hang of it. Then when you are ready to venture out, make sure you go before you leave and ask ALOT when you are out. Always bring a spare panty and pants and remember that you won't die if pee spills. And it will.

It just starts to click after a few weeks. You both get into a new rhythm and it starts to all work out.

When I potty-trained my daughter, I used an insert in the big potty to make it so she could sit on the regular toilet. We had a stool she would climb up on, so she could reach it. That way, she became accustomed to using the "big potty" and wasn't so scared of using one at a public restroom. You might want to start using an insert instead of the little potty.

ashley, maybe you could practice at home on the big potty... if she goes on the BIG POTTY she gets a BIGger sticker???... and maybe put a special sticker page in her diaper bag for BIG POTTY stickers on the go...
good luck!!!
love,
dani

Um, so I have no advice. We tried to start potty training yesterday. It lasted, oh, about 3 hours. Then I broke down and put the diaper back on. She was freaking out and I was too tired to deal with it. Then I took an online quiz called "is your child ready for toilet training," and I determined that she's NOT. So, we'll try again some other day! :)

Hi, Wow! what a lot to think about in the year to come. I hope you figure it all out, so you can tell me how to do it! No, just kidding, it sounds like patience is key. Really, I wanted to comment on your Stock Show comment. I really wanted to take Reise this year and I'm so glad I read about your experience before we headed down. I've never gone to the County fair so now I look forward to that instead. Thank you for sharing! It'll be better to go when Reise can walk too. (Cowboy boots will be a must.)

AH! I'm about to go through the same thing. My mom always told me that it should take 3 straight days, staying at home (no taget shopping) and timing it every hour. I too have made a potty chart and a I decorated a cute box w/fun stickers and things from the dollar bin at Target to go in it to hopefully intise (?) her. I will let you know how it goes. I wish you luck w/potty training. Wish me luck b/c I am a moron for thinking that is is going to be EASY..lord help me!!

How about those little potty covers? I used to have ones that had Sesame Street characters on it. I just found these online that have Dora on them: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0002XO5K6

Maybe the big potty won't look so intimidating if she sees these friendly characters on it??

Good luck!! :) Keep us updated!
