She's got the brains...

Allikaye is very interested in
drawing and coloring lately...
this is a new little milestone for us -
she would color with one color -
for perhaps one minute -
and be on to the next big thing.

But now...
she spends time on her portraits...
describing in detail the creation...
"this is a big castle, mama,
with a dungeon, and lots of people..."
She focuses so intently on the faces..
as she tells me
"here are the eyes, the happy smiley face"
She can look at her whole painting/drawing
and tell you exactly what she drew...
it may be hard to tell with the "adult-eyes" I have,
but she knows exactly what she drew.

She makes up the funniest stories too...
like the dog who wanted to save the princess
but he couldn't go down to the dungeon
by himself.
So he had to get a prince.

We are also mastering drawing an "A".
The process continues...
She can tell you how to draw one...
but to have her actually draw one on command...
well that would be following someone else's will...
and that doesn't always fly for this strong-willed beauty!
I am so thankful that my girl loves to draw...
be creative...
l-o-v-e-s to read...
loves to follow the lines in books and pretend to read...
loves to CREATE!
I love that!

She also has been a little sick girl.
Here is conversation we had this morning...

AK: What was that thing called that you put in my armpit?

Mama: A thermometer...
it tells mama if you are really sick, a little sick, or not at all.

AK: No, mom, a thermometer tells if I have a fever!

Well, smarty pants, yes, it does!
I just should have said that in the first place!
She keeps me on her toes with her brains!

I love watching my children draw and create. I find those are the times my daughter will talk most intimately...about everything going on in her little life. Cherish those times!
